These guys really knows how to swing and shuffle the blues and its hard to believe that they orign from Stockholm Sweden! If you like shuffles and swing from the fifties combined with soulgrooves from the sixties than you are about to fall in love with these fine gentlemen playing and singing at their very best on their debut CD "First Gear". Here you find a tasteful combination of stinging and soulful guitars, strong confident vocals, grooving B3 , jazzy and swingin Ludwigdrums and a Fender Precision bass tastfully performed. They take us away with soulballads like "Hello Sundown" by soulbluesgreat Johnny Taylor and shuffles like Johnny Guitar Watsons "Hot Little Mama". With rich roomy sounds as well as tastfull arrangements. Just listen to the nice jazzy tenorsax on "Evenin". BLUE HAMMER have a special treat to make the selected covers sounding as their own songs. "Daddy Rolling Stone" by Otis Blackwell is a good example! There is three original songs on the CD. "The sky Aint Crying" a slow blues "with nice lowdown vocals which accentuate the melodramatic feel. And one instrumental, "First gear" a swinging shuffle inspired by Freddy King and other great Texasguitarists with a hornsection that really accentuate the songs roadrunning beats. "Virgin Converter" is a medium shuffle with a nice rolling hornsection. In 1999 Blue Hammer did a tour with Jimmy Dawkins. 2008 Blue Hammer is back with the classic line up from 1998 and have recently recordet a live CD wich i is planned to be released 2008. So in short this is one of the best swinging bluesbands in Scandinavia. Something they prove with both their debut CD "First Gear" and their steaming liveperformances, true blue emotional eruptions...
